Richmanu (pronounced Richmanoo).
I was originally born in Bradford but I grew up on the west coast of Ireland before making the pilgramage back to Yorkshire.
I'm a musicain at heart and and from a family of bass players (one uncle infact a bass player for Rick Wakeman!) I started Djing in the mid 90's at seedy undergound alternative Punk-Goth-Grebo bars and clubs in Bradford before moving to Leeds. After a brief spell paying homage to 80's electro pop at Le Phono in the Merrion Centre I found myself DJing britpop and big beat at the now defunct Town and Country club and for a year plied my trade on the main stage infront of 1800 people a week.
With the connections made at the T&C outside promoters from LUU offered me a slot on Thursday nights playing more contempory Indie. A year later and the offer of a permanant residency and taking on for the first time promotions of my own club night, I with my long time friend Dan Lomax started GIGANTIC in 2001.
With an eclectric sense of DJing having done nights from Baggy Manchester Indie to UK Garage, Drum n bass to Cheesey pop I found solice in Electroclash, Drum machines and guitars have always been my staple diet. I'm a lover of crossover genres aimed at the dancefloor and Electro inspired me to break from the shackles of traditional Independent music and a couple of random visits to Brighton's Dorchester on a Tuesday night confirmed this, with DJ's really just going for it playing anything they wanted!
I wanted to do something similar with the tunes I had and so set about bringing what can only be described 'dance music' to 'indie kids'. Something which has recently caught the attention of WAX:ON having filled in at the last minute for The Sunshine Underground in the 'Indie Room' originally what was supposed to be a two hour set was extended to four hours!
Along side DJing GIGANTIC, Leeds bars, corporate events, student anthem nights, private functions, weddings, peoples bassments and front rooms I also keep my creative output ticking over writing music for my own band 'Cosmonaut' and for myself and ham together mash-ups and remixes of my favourite music.
